| Some
women have periods regularly every month, others sometimes skip
some months. Since you are young, it is normal that your periods
are irregular, but this will change as you get older. Sometimes
young girls who have just started menstruating go for as long
as a year without their period. So don't worry if you haven't
had a period for a few months.
There
is also no reason why you should be infertile. If you are
not having periods, you are also not ovulating. You will therefore
not get pregnant. But this does not mean that you are permanently
infertile. I do recommend that you consult your doctor, especially
if your period does not start again after a year. Remember
that if you have either lost or gained a lot of weight, this
can also affect your periods. So make sure you have a healthy,
balanced diet. Iron should form part of your diet, as when
you menstruate, your body loses blood. Iron is naturally found
in certain foods such as meat, especially liver, kidney and
heart; grasshoppers and termites (majuru/amagenga) eggs, chicken
and fish; dark-leaved vegetables; peas, beans and lentils.
