CURRENT TARSC TRAINING ACTIVITIES
Winter School 2010 The Training and Research Support Centre (TARSC), and University of Zimbabwe, Department of Community Medicine (UZ-DCM) are inviting applications for the Winter School Public Health short course-training programme to be held at UZ Health Sciences Building from the 5 – 10 July 2010
Civil Society and the State in Africa: International Web Course Between September to April York University (Toronto) working with TARSC runs an internet-based course, Civil Society and the State in Africa. Members of civil society organizations in East and Southern Africa are invited to apply for participation in the course, which is provided free-of-charge. The 12-unit course for 2009 has been completed. For information on the next course, please email to admin@tarsc.org and rsaunder@yorku.ca.
Community Based Research Skills Training 2010
TARSC is carrying out training for community based members of civil society and public sector institutions to support local level skills for assessments and monitoring, and to build and use evidence based approaches to planning and management of programmes. The training is provided through a two stage basic course linked to mentored field projects. Institutions interested in the training please email to admin@tarsc.org with COMMUNITY BASED RESEARCH in the subject line.
Regional Health Literacy Training 2010
The regional health literacy training programe TARSC has been carrying out training for health literacy facilitators in districts of Malawi with Malawi Health Equity Network, Zimbabwe with Community Working Group on Health and in Botswana with BONELA and BFTU and a proposal has now been developed to expand through partners to further countries: Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia and Mozambique.
Swahili version of Auntie Stella launched in Tanzania The First Lady of Tanzania Mrs Salma Kikwete, founder of the Wanawake na Maendeleo Foundation (WAMA) and Patron of the Medical Women Association of Tanzania, launched the Swahili version of the Auntie Stella toolkit, known as Shangazi Stella, at a colourful ceremony in Dar es Salaam on 4th November. Representatives from Civil Society and Ministry of Education and Vocational Training were present to witness the official recognition of Shangazi Stella along with other material developed by the Tanzania German Programme to Support Health(TGPSH) in the Prevention and Awareness in Secondary Schools of HIV/AIDS (PASHA) project.The PASHA project runs in-school programmes in Lindi, Tanga and Mtwara regions in Tanzania. The programme works closely with teachers and school counsellors and aims to improve knowledge on sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS.PASHA is a close partner with TARSC, the originators of the Auntie Stella toolkit.
