ONGOING TRAINING ACTIVITIES

Auntie Stella training activities

In Malawi, the Chichewa version of Auntie Stella has been successfully printed and is now available at the YONECO offices, which is the lead organisation in the dissemination of the Auntie Stella Programme. Refresher training workshops have been lined up for 2010 for the 7 Districts actively using the Auntie Stella toolkit. Follow up communication has been talking place to discuss further actions since the success of the Chichewa print-run and delivery. Chichewa copies are also available at TARSC offices for distribution. Plans are also underway to launch the Chichewa version officially in the coming year.

In Zambia the two organisations we work with in Zambia, CIDRZ and ZNARVS, have facilitated training workshops during the course of the year to partners from Face to Face Foundation. Besides supporting the ART clinics, support groups offer other support services such as information sharing. The two groups received training in the use of participatory approaches and Auntie Stella and received Auntie Stella toolkits. The two groups have relayed positive feedback about the use of the Auntie Stella toolkit.

In South Africa the Kidzpositive Family Fund &Western Cape AIDS Training Information and Counselling Centre (ATICC) are our newest partners. We held a training of trainers’ workshop with 11 participants, in July 2009, and will pilot and roll out more training workshops in the concepts and facilitation of Auntie Stella. Solon in South Africa has disseminated the Auntie Stella toolkit to various institutions and is working with the Catholic Institute of Education in schools with over 50 schools. The toolkit has proved to be very popular with students, whilst teachers are struggling with managing and responding to the issues being brought by students as a result of interaction with the stories in the pack.

In Mozambique, Geracao Biz is a national, multi-sectoral adolescent programme, coordinated jointly by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education in Mozambique - and HIVOS Geracao Biz, with technical support from Pathfinder International and UNFPA. This group received training in the use of the Auntie Stella toolkit in 2008 and has since conducted a training of trainer’s workshop to 22 other facilitators to carry on work.

The Auntie Stella website provides information for those that want to know more about how to use and adapt the Auntie Stella pack. There is ample information on the website on how to do this, as well as opportunities for discussion and debate on issues related to youth reproductive health. If you want to find out more about Auntie Stella or order a pack from TARSC, contact us, see the pack on this website or email us directly at info@auntiestella.org Come on, lets talk!!!
