Health systems
need to accommodate community perceptions and roles
As noted earlier, these civil
inputs do not substitute for the core health sector responsibilities
of the state, and depend on a platform of relevant, accessible
health inputs and services. There are also some challenges for
health systems in moving from 'health sector supply' to 'civil
society demand' driven health programmes. Compromise and flexibility
is needed. Health systems need to accommodate and work with community
perceptions that may not be shared by health workers, to take
the time to develop shared perceptions. This may demand new skills
of health personnel.
